Cat But Human

Launched on May 10, 2025

Cat But Human was the perfect example of a talented ceramic artist stuck in the social media sales trap. She was creating beautiful, whimsical handmade pottery - everything from "Silly Goose Cups" to "Take Your Meds" plates - but was completely dependent on Instagram for sales and art market foot traffic.

Her quirky, functional ceramics that "bring a touch of whimsy to your life" deserved a proper digital home that could showcase her personality and unique voice. She needed to break free from algorithm dependency and create her own corner of the internet where collectors could discover her work organically.

The Project's Goals

Create a simple, pastel-inspired website that would serve as Cat's digital headquarters - independent from social media platforms that could disappear overnight. The main objectives were to establish a professional online presence that matched her whimsical ceramic aesthetic, create a streamlined user experience with clear navigation to her shop and newsletter, and build SEO foundations that would help ceramics collectors find her work through search engines rather than just social media.

How It Went

This was such a rewarding project because Cat truly embodied what the Artist's Launch Academy is all about - taking control of your digital presence instead of being at the mercy of social media algorithms. During Module 4, we worked together to create a website template that perfectly captured her pastel-loving, whimsy-focused brand.

The loading homepage design was intentionally simple - three clear pathways for visitors depending on what they needed. Her pastel color palette creates this dreamy, approachable feeling that perfectly matches her ceramic aesthetic. But the real magic happened in the strategic instructions I provided for her to optimize the site herself.

I equipped her with specific SEO strategies for ceramic artists, product description frameworks that would appeal to both human collectors and AI search systems, and content creation guidance that would help her build authority in the handmade pottery space.

I had never made a website before. It was a lot of work but I love my website!
