Reach Is Not How You Reach Your Followers to sell art on tiktok
I spent a week reading everything TikTok actually publishes about connecting with the people who already follow you. My assumption going in was wrong, and so is most of the advice you have been given.
You have followers. Some of them have been there a year. They watch your work, they leave a fire emoji, and then nothing happens.
So you post more, because that is what everyone tells you to do.
I want to tell you why that has not been working, and it has nothing to do with you being bad at this.
The advice you have been given
Post more. Post at the right time. Use trending sounds. Get to ten thousand followers and things change.
Almost none of that is written down anywhere by TikTok. It is people repeating people. Some of it directly contradicts what the platform publishes in its own documentation, which is public, free, and almost nobody sits down and reads.

I always write the question at the top of the page before I start, so that later I can tell whether I answered it or just wandered around near it.
The question was: how do creators connect with their followers, whether by rules, format, or messaging?
And underneath it, the assumption I was carrying in.

It took about a day of reading to find out that it is wrong. Here is the one piece I am going to give you for free, because it is the piece that changes how you feel about your own account.
Follower count does not determine reach. And there is no format built to push your work to the people who already follow you.
Read that twice. It sounds like bad news and it is the opposite.
If you have been posting consistently and waiting for reach to turn into relationships, you were not doing it wrong.
You were doing exactly what everybody is told to do. That advice is everywhere, and most of it has never once been checked against what the platform actually publishes.
The documentation says the connection was always going to be manual. That is slower than an algorithm, and it is also entirely yours, which means it works at eighty followers the same way it works at eighty thousand.
Your people are already there. The lab is about going to talk to them.
